Description:
This is almost always a circular, medium shield. It is
treated with Everbright and has a centered, white circle 1 foot in
diameter. The grips are welded metal wrapped in leather.
History:
This defensive device was developed nearly three hundred
winters ago in Impiltur. The Lords of Imphras II began to consolidate
their newly-established power and wished that their clergy were well
protected in defense of Implitur or in service of Ilmater. Although
originally created by priests of Ilmater, these were unaligned items.
With all good ideas, other faiths began to make them. Finally, a priest
of Mystra figured out how to make one that adapted to the alignment of
its bearer. Since that time, the Shields of Faith have been spreading
to all religious fighting men across Faerun.
Powers:
In the hands of all non-priests, the shield is +0 that is
resistant to mundane rust and wear. Any cleric, crusader, specialty
priest, or paladin that posesses a Sheild of Faith gains a number of
extra powers. The shield is +2 and is immune to all rusting, including
rust monsters. The white circle can, if the bearer desires, display the
the holy symbol of its owner. The appearance or removal is by act of
will.
Based on the alignment of its bearer, the Shield provides a few other
bonuses. If the bearer is good he may cast Light 1/day, evil: Darkness
1/day, and neutral priests may cast either, but only once per/ 3 days.
A lawful priest may also use Aid 1/ride, chaotic: Blur 1/ride, and
neutral may cast Shield 1/5 days. These abilities must be invoked by
act of will and verbal utterance of the name of the priest's deity. All
effects are centered on the bearer or shield, whichever is more
applicable.
